Breaking ground in 2026, the home is nestled between 2 washes, blending into its surroundings like a shadow in the desert. The home is divided into 2 distinct masses, the smaller garage mass and the taller living area mass.  Each volume has a single, distinct sloping roof which angles in opposite directions, resembling the peaks of the mountains beyond.

The house is currently on track to become the first Passive House Institute of the United States (PHIUS) certified home in Scottsdale and only the second PHIUS certified home in the Phoenix metro area.  PHIUS principals of super insulation, air tightness, energy efficiency and thermal comfort are all incorporated into the design.  The home is also on track to be a certified net zero energy home and will incorporate solar panels on the roof of the garage.  The panels will match the slope of the roof to blend more seamlessly into the architecture.

The envelope of the home is designed around the International Wildland Urban Interface Code (IWUIC) adopted by the Sedona Fire Department and Coconino and Yavapai Counties to design fire resilient homes.

All windows are protected by large overhangs and deep shadow boxes.  The exterior color of the outside face of the shadow boxes compliments the palo verde trees on site and help tie the home into the desert.  The exterior walls are a rain screen system helping to insulate the exterior of the building while also creating a drainage plane for the wall to transfer moisture.
